Sending KakoBuy parcels to Germany: Zoll, import VAT and the €3 fee explained, with every DHL, DPD and UPS line priced

Checked and updated .

Short answer: KakoBuy ships to Germany, and its estimator on 12 October 2026 put the cheapest 1 kg line, Europe DHL Line (Express Line), at $23.70 over 8-12 days. Germany charges 19% import VAT from the first euro, and KakoBuy says it adds €3 per parcel to the shipping cost at checkout because the EU's €150 duty exemption ended on 1 July 2026. Pick a line named duty-free or tariffless.

Does KakoBuy ship to Germany? Nine lines, priced on 12 October 2026

It does. The estimator lists nine entries for a German address, all quoted in US dollars. Dashes mean no quote at that weight, and KakoBuy says third-party prices follow the market, so re-read the page before paying.

DHL Europe Duty Free Route (allows batteries)$20.63$28.79$45.1113-17 days
Europe Tariffless Line-S$19.60——6-12 days

The pricing is tight. Europe DHL Line (Express Line) is cheapest at all three weights, and the tariffless -K line sits only $0.97 above it at 1 kg and 2 kg. The dearest 1 kg quote, $28.79, is only $5.09 above the cheapest. A light parcel pays heavily per kilogram: 500 g is $31.80 per kilogram, against $19.65 at 2 kg.

German prices are close together, so the labels and battery rules matter more than the last dollar.

Zoll, EUSt and the end of the €150 exemption

German customs (Zoll) collects import VAT, called Einfuhrumsatzsteuer or EUSt, on parcels from outside the EU. Germany's rate is 19%, and it has applied from the first euro since July 2021. On top of that, the EU's €150 duty exemption ended on 1 July 2026. In its place sits a temporary flat €3 duty per different tariff category in a parcel worth up to €150, due to run until 1 July 2028, per the Council of the EU's press release of 11 February 2026. The €3 is per category, not per item.

Goods worth €100 attract €19 in import VAT; two categories add €6 in duty if nobody absorbs it. Whether the VAT base includes shipping we did not verify. KakoBuy's help page listing a €22 EU threshold is out of date.

Expect 19% VAT on the goods, plus a flat duty per category unless the line covers it.

The €3 KakoBuy fee: what its notices say and what we can't tell

KakoBuy responded to the EU change with two notices. On 23 June 2026 it said it would charge €3 per parcel whatever the number of categories, pay the rest itself, and add the €3 to the shipping cost at checkout. On 1 July 2026 it said all EU duty-free lines were updated to include duties, with no additional customs duties required. It says it registered an IOSS number in 2021, and its help centre says postal lines (EMS, EUB, SAL) clear on a recipient-pays basis. No postal line appears in the German list.

The €3 KakoBuy fee is added at checkout per its notice. We can't tell from the estimator whether the quoted dollar prices already include it, so the examples below show it as a separate line.

Budget the €3 on top, and treat it as already included only if checkout says so.

A 1 kg and a 2 kg parcel to Germany, costed

The figures are estimator quotes of 12 October 2026 (no dimensions) plus KakoBuy's customs declaration, generally ¥8, or about $1.12 at ¥1 ≈ $0.14. We have not converted euros, as we hold no exchange rate. Goods are excluded.

1 kg, Europe DHL Line (Express Line), 8-12 days: $23.70 + $1.12 = $24.82, plus €3 at checkout

1 kg, Europe Tariffless Line -K, 7-12 days: $24.67 + $1.12 = $25.79, plus €3 at checkout

1 kg, DPD Line-electrified, 9-20 days: $26.79 + $1.12 = $27.91, plus €3 at checkout

2 kg, Europe DHL Line (Express Line): $39.30 + $1.12 = $40.42, plus €3 at checkout

2 kg, Europe Tariffless Line -K: $40.27 + $1.12 = $41.39, plus €3 at checkout

2 kg, DHL Europe Duty Free Route (allows batteries): $45.11 + $1.12 = $46.23, plus €3 at checkout

Going from 1 kg to 2 kg adds $15.60 on the DHL Express line, so two kilograms cost 1.66 times one. The shipping calculator accepts your own quote and the volumetric divisor.

Two kilograms cost about 1.7 times one, so fill the parcel before you submit it.

DHL, DPD or UPS: choosing a German line

The list names three carriers. DHL appears on four lines (Express, Small Parcel Economy, Fast Line J and the Duty Free Route), DPD on one and UPS on one. Fast Line J is marked No Battery; the Duty Free Route allows batteries, as do the two electrified entries (DPD, UPS). Europe DHL Small Parcel (Economy) runs 13-17 days, five days longer than Express for $3.53 more at 1 kg, so it is rarely worth choosing.

Take the tariffless -K line for about a dollar more than the cheapest, and the Duty Free Route for batteries.

Questions buyers ask

Does KakoBuy ship to Germany, and which line is cheapest?

Yes. On 12 October 2026 the estimator listed nine German line entries. The cheapest at every weight was Europe DHL Line (Express Line): $15.90 for 500 g, $23.70 for 1 kg and $39.30 for 2 kg, with an 8-12 day window. Europe Tariffless Line -K was next, only $0.97 higher at 1 kg and 2 kg.

What is the €3 KakoBuy charges on parcels to Germany?

The EU ended its €150 duty exemption on 1 July 2026 and set a flat €3 duty per tariff category. KakoBuy's notice of 23 June 2026 says it charges €3 per parcel however many categories the parcel holds, covers the remainder, and adds the €3 to shipping at checkout. It says it will announce in advance if it ends this.

How much import VAT will I pay in Germany on a KakoBuy parcel?

Germany applies 19% import VAT from the first euro, so goods worth €100 carry €19 before any other charge. KakoBuy says its EU duty-free lines include all duties, but the estimator does not say whether VAT is inside the quoted price, and we could not verify it. Ask support before you ship a high-value parcel.

How long does a KakoBuy parcel take to reach Germany?

Line windows run from 6-12 days to 8-25 days. Add 1 to 7 working days from seller to its Xiamen warehouse (one help article says Guangdong) and about 2 working days for carrier pickup. rep.tools, which earns a KakoBuy affiliate commission, measured 12 to 24 days door to door for Germany across agents, so plan on roughly two to three weeks.

Does a tariffless line mean I pay nothing to German customs?

Not necessarily. KakoBuy says its EU duty-free lines include duties, per its notice of 1 July 2026, but import VAT of 19% is a separate tax that KakoBuy did not describe as covered on the estimator. Lines without a duty-free name, such as DPD Line-electrified, may leave clearance to you. Check each line's note at checkout.
