How KakoBuy shipping is charged and timed: official 1 kg line quotes for five countries, the full door-to-door clock and where the money goes

Checked and updated .

Short answer: KakoBuy charges international shipping by weight, line and destination, and on 12 October 2026 its estimator quoted a 1 kg parcel from $16.29 to the UK, $23.70 to Germany, $26.89 to Spain, $20.24 by sea or $23.49 by air to Canada, and $38.07 to the US. Parcels ship within 24 hours of submission; the line then takes 2 to 45 days.

How KakoBuy works out a shipping price

KakoBuy shipping has no flat rate. KakoBuy's help centre states that the international fee is calculated from three things: weight, shipping method (the line) and destination.

Some lines bill by box size instead of scale weight when a parcel is large and light. Article 26 gives the formula: multiply length, width and height in centimetres, then divide by 5000, 6000, 7000 or 8000 (the carrier decides), and bill whichever is higher: that result or the actual kilos. A 40 × 30 × 20 cm box has 24,000 cm³, which is 4.8 kg on a 5000 line and 3.0 kg on an 8000 line, whatever the scale says.

Shipping sits on top of the item cost, the domestic freight to the warehouse and a declaration charge usually around ¥8, all itemised on the fees page. For your own parcel, the shipping calculator adds those pieces together.

Weight, line and destination set the price; size can override weight on some lines.

1 kg quotes for five countries

The prices below are from KakoBuy's estimator on 12 October 2026: 1,000 g, destination and weight entered, nothing else. KakoBuy says third-party lines change price with the market, so treat them as a snapshot.

CanadaCanada Sea Packet-F$20.2435–45Canada HD Line-electrified$26.614–10

"Quickest" here means the shortest stated range at 1 kg, not a guarantee. For Canada the cheapest air line was Canada HD Line at $23.49 and 7 to 18 days; the sea line takes five to six weeks. The US cheapest line accepts batteries and liquids, which is why it is called Cosmetics Air Express, but it is not labelled tax-free: the cheapest tax-free option was USPS Tax-Free Line at $39.28 and 7 to 13 days.

At 1 kg the UK is cheapest at $16.29 and the US dearest at $38.07, a 2.3-fold gap.

Why a small parcel feels expensive

The price curve is steepest at the start. One line per country cost far more per kilo at 500 g than at 2 kg, because a large share of the fee is a fixed base for handling and carriage.

One line per country, with price per kg at each weight (12 Oct 2026)
Country (line)500 g1 kg2 kgPer kg at 500 gPer kg at 2 kg
USA (Cosmetics Air Express)$22.52$38.07$69.17$45.04$34.59
Germany (Europe DHL Express)$15.90$23.70$39.30$31.80$19.65
UK (UK HG dedicated line PT)$9.84$16.29$29.19$19.68$14.60

Two further effects raise the bill. On top of that, the April 2025 notice puts US tax-free routes at about $5 to $10 above regular ones, and the US de minimis exemption has ended, so cheaper routes leave you to clear customs and pay. Fill a heavier parcel only with items you want, and mind the storage window while you wait for the last one.

The cheapest way to lower the per-kilo cost is a fuller parcel, not a pricier line.

The whole clock, from seller to door

Shipping time is only the last leg. KakoBuy's help centre gives each step.

  1. Seller dispatch: Taobao stores dispatch within 3 to 7 days (article 81); JD self-operated stores the same day.
  2. Seller to warehouse: about 1, 3 or 7 working days from the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta or elsewhere. See where the warehouse is.
  3. Inspection and storage: photos arrive; items wait free for 100 days while you decide.
  4. Submit parcel: KakoBuy says it ships within 24 hours.
  5. Carrier pickup: within 2 working days, none at weekends or on public holidays (article 106).
  6. Line transit: as listed above, from 2 to 6 days for express lines to 35 to 45 for sea.

For a Yangtze River Delta seller shipping on USPS Tax-Free Line, that is 3 to 7 days, plus 3 working days to Xiamen, plus 1 day to ship, plus 7 to 13 days of transit: roughly 14 to 24 days before pickup delays, mixing working and calendar days. rep.tools (it says it earns KakoBuy affiliate income) measured a 14.5-day median door to door for its 69 Canada orders in July 2026, a third-party figure. After you ship, the order status page explains what each tracking word means.

Allow two to four weeks overall; the line is often the shorter part.

Duty-free and tax-free lines

KakoBuy labels some lines so that the duty is included. To the US the estimator listed five labelled routes including USPS Tax-Free Line, a USPS Special Line, US Tax-Free (Actual Weight), UPS Duty-Free and a CN-EMS route. At 1 kg the first three cost $39.28, $42.00 and $43.33, and the EMS route $49.48.

For the EU, a notice of 23 June 2026 says KakoBuy charges €3 per parcel however many tariff categories it holds, covers the rest, and adds the €3 to shipping at checkout. A second notice on 1 July 2026 says the EU duty-free lines include duties. Import VAT is separate and still applies. For the UK, VAT is taken at the till on goods up to £135; for Canada the duty-free ceiling on Chinese goods is CAD 20. The duty-free lines page goes through each market.

Choose a line KakoBuy labels duty-inclusive and expect to pay more for it.

Insurance and what happens if a parcel is late

Kako Insurance is optional and bought as you submit a parcel. KakoBuy lists delay insurance, which pays 20% of the shipping fee if a parcel exceeds 30 or 40 days from shipment depending on the route; customs-hold insurance; and loss or damage cover paying the shipping fee plus actual goods value, up to the insured amount. Exclusions include force majeure and customs inspections. Uninsured, you get assistance only if a carrier loses the parcel; tell support about any abnormal parcel within 72 hours of signing. The insurance page sets out the claim steps.

Insure the parcels you could not easily replace, and record the unboxing.

Questions buyers ask

How much does KakoBuy shipping cost for 1 kg?

On 12 October 2026 KakoBuy's estimator quoted, for 1,000 g with no dimensions, from $16.29 to the UK, $23.70 to Germany, $26.89 to Spain, $23.49 to Canada by air and $38.07 to the US. Those are the cheapest listed lines; faster or tax-free lines cost more, so rerun the estimator before paying.

How long does KakoBuy shipping take?

After you submit a parcel KakoBuy says it ships within 24 hours and the carrier collects within 2 working days. Line transit then ranged from 2 to 6 days (HK UPS to the US) to 35 to 45 days (Canada sea lines) in the 12 October 2026 estimator. Add the seller's leg to Xiamen for the real total.

Why is KakoBuy shipping so expensive?

Because light parcels still pay a large base price: the cheapest 500 g line to the US was $20.95, versus $9.84 to the UK. US tax-free routes add roughly $5 to $10 a package over regular ones, per KakoBuy's April 2025 notice. A heavier parcel cuts the cost per kilo to $34.59 at 2 kg.

What is volumetric weight on KakoBuy?

It is a size-based weight. KakoBuy's help article 26 says length times width times height in centimetres, divided by 5000 (or 6000, 7000, 8000 depending on the carrier), is compared with actual weight and the larger is billed. A 40 by 30 by 20 cm box is 4.8 kg on a 5000 line but 3.0 kg on 8000, so bulky, light parcels cost the most.

Does KakoBuy have duty-free shipping lines?

Yes, for the US and EU. The estimator lists US lines named tax-free or duty-free, such as USPS Tax-Free at $39.28 for 1 kg, and EU 'tariffless' and duty-free lines. KakoBuy says it adds a €3 per parcel EU duty charge to shipping at checkout and covers the rest, so EU buyers still pay import VAT.

Should I buy KakoBuy shipping insurance?

Consider it for anything you would mind losing. Kako Insurance, chosen when you submit a parcel, offers delay cover paying 20% of the shipping fee after 30 or 40 days (route-dependent), customs-hold cover and loss or damage cover. On a $38.07 US parcel that delay payout is about $7.61. Without insurance, KakoBuy says it only assists with carrier losses.
