Find QC photos of a KakoBuy item before you order: reference panel, item-ID search and the checks that matter

Checked and updated .

Short answer: A KakoBuy QC finder is a lookup that takes the Taobao, Weidian or 1688 item ID behind a link and shows warehouse photos that earlier buyers' agents took of the same listing. KakoBuy has its own "Reference Photos" panel, gated by growth value, and you can also search Reddit and Discord by item ID. Check photo dates, then pay ¥2 per extra photo only if gaps remain.

What a QC finder actually does

KakoBuy inspects each purchased item on arrival, and QC photos come out of that. A finder collects photos like those and files them under the marketplace item ID, which is the number inside the Taobao, Weidian or 1688 link, so a stranger's photos of the same listing can be shown to you.

That matters because the match is made on the number, not on how the item looks. Our link converter shows the ID for a link you paste, so you can check a result against your row yourself.

This page is about photos that exist before you buy. Photos of your own order are covered in KakoBuy QC photos, and reading a sheet's linked photos is in the QC spreadsheet guide.

A finder matches by item ID, so confirm the ID before you trust the photos.

KakoBuy's own Reference Photos panel

KakoBuy's item pages contain a panel labelled "Reference Photos". Its tip reads: "Growth value is equal to or greater than {point}, you can see the product reference map. Your current growth value is insufficient." In plain words, the panel opens once your account has enough growth value.

KakoBuy says growth value is "rewarded by shipping amount (1 CNY = 1 growth value)". The threshold itself is not shown to logged-out visitors on 18 October 2026, and we found it nowhere in the help articles, so we call it not published.

The same item page shows a "Find Similar" button and an "Affiliate Share" link. We did not test what the panel displays once unlocked, so we cannot say how many photos it holds or how old they are.

Reference Photos is locked behind shipping spend; do not plan around it as a new user.

rep.tools, which earns a KakoBuy affiliate commission, says its finder searches buyers' photos from 20+ agents, claims about 80,000 QC searches a month and lists 1,501+ items and 3,527+ photos. Those are its own claims and unverified. On our arithmetic, 3,527 photos over 1,501 items is about 2.3 photos per item.

The first four sources are free previews; only the last two show the item you actually bought.

Step by step: look for existing photos before you order

  1. Get the item ID. Paste the marketplace link into the link converter and copy the number: a Weidian itemID, a Taobao id or a 1688 offer id.
  2. Try a finder. Paste the link or the ID into any QC finder. Some finders expand short links for you.
  3. Search the ID on Reddit and Discord. In our reading, buyers' QC posts often include the item link, so the ID can find them; we have not measured how often. Our Reddit and Discord guide explains where buyers post and what to trust.
  4. Sort by date. Our advice: keep the newest set and write its date next to the row.
  5. Compare with the listing. Open the seller's photos and the size table beside the buyer's photos.

Search by ID, not by product name, and write the photo date next to the row.

What to check in someone else's QC, and what only your own shows

Someone else's photos can answer four questions: does the colour match the listing, is the construction tidy, does the label or tag match the listing, and does the item look like the seller's pictures. They cannot answer whether the unit you receive will be the same, because a different pair of hands packs your order.

Some checks need your own order. Fit is the main one: a photo of a flat garment says little unless someone also posted a tape-measure shot. Your own QC arrives after you have paid for the item, which is why the 5-day return window starts at "Stocked in". The inspection itself skips colour difference, loose threads and tiny issues, so a clean borrowed photo is not a guarantee either way.

KakoBuy says on its item page that it "cannot identify the quality and/or authenticity of the goods". A finder inherits that limit and adds a second one: the photos are a sample of what some buyers received, chosen by whoever posted them.

Borrowed photos check the listing; only your own QC checks your unit.

Check the date: the May 2026 image incident

On 11 May 2026 KakoBuy said some QC images created or updated between 2 and 8 May 2026 displayed wrongly or were unavailable, after warehouse-side upload permissions were improperly accessed by external parties. It says accounts, passwords, orders, balances, payment details, addresses and logistics data were not affected.

For a finder, that gives a simple rule. If the only photos for an item are dated in that window, we would treat them as unverified and look for a set from another month. The incident log keeps the full timeline.

A set dated 2 to 8 May 2026 needs a second source.

Worked example: three extra photos or a return

Take a hypothetical ¥200 item (about $28, an example price, not a quote) where the finder shows no clear shot of the stitching or label. You can ask for three personalised photos once it reaches the warehouse, or skip them and return the item if it disappoints. KakoBuy's published return fees are first return each month free, ¥5 for the 2nd to 5th, ¥10 for the 6th to 9th, ¥20 from the 10th. Shipping to the seller is charged on top and its price is not published, so the return figures below are the service fee only.

Three extra photos: 3 × ¥2 = ¥6 = about $0.84, which is 3.0% of the ¥200 item

Second return in a month: ¥5 = about $0.70 service fee, plus shipping both ways

Tenth return in a month: ¥20 = about $2.80 service fee, plus shipping both ways

Photos versus second-return fee: ¥6 ÷ ¥5 = 1.2 times

The photos cost more than a second return's service fee, so fees alone do not decide it. The difference is shipping and time: a return pays carriage both ways and waits for the seller to agree, while the photos arrive within 24 hours, according to KakoBuy. Seller errors and quality faults cost you nothing, and the refunds and returns page has the full table. If you would rather talk it through, scan the WhatsApp QR on the contact page.

¥6 of photos is cheap next to return carriage; buy them only when a detail decides the purchase.

Questions buyers ask

Why does KakoBuy say my growth value is too low for Reference Photos?

The panel's tip reads that a growth value equal to or greater than a set point unlocks the product reference map, and that yours is insufficient. Growth value is rewarded by shipping spend, 1 CNY of shipping to 1 growth value. KakoBuy does not show the threshold to logged-out visitors, so we cannot say how much shipping unlocks it.

Is a third-party QC finder safer than Reddit searches?

Neither is safer; they answer different questions. A finder is quick but undated in the case we read, and its operator may earn KakoBuy affiliate commission. Reddit posts carry dates and comments but are hit-or-miss. Use both, match the item ID yourself, and never enter your KakoBuy password anywhere except kakobuy.com.

Can a QC finder tell me if an item is authentic?

No. A photo shows what one buyer received on one date. KakoBuy's own item page states that it cannot identify the quality or authenticity of the goods, and its inspection skips colour difference and tiny issues. Treat finder photos as evidence about condition, size and finish, not as certification, and avoid goods that infringe trademarks.

What if the finder shows nothing for my item?

It often means no earlier buyer's photos were matched to that ID, not that the item is bad. Search the ID on Reddit and Discord, try the other marketplace link if the seller has two, and check whether the listing is new. If you still want it, order one and read your own QC within the 5-day window.

How old can a finder photo be before I ignore it?

Sellers can change batches without changing the listing, so we would not trust a photo more than a few months old on an item you plan to keep. Anything dated 2 to 8 May 2026 sits inside the window KakoBuy said was affected by its image incident. We prefer photos from the last few weeks, and note the date beside each row.

Do I need a KakoBuy account to use a QC finder?

Not for third-party finders: rep.tools, for example, says you paste a link and it expands short links. KakoBuy's Reference Photos panel is different, because the growth value tip needs a logged-in account with enough shipping history. Either way you can search Reddit and Discord by item ID without any account at all.
